Someone just filled in a form on your website.
Think about what that means. They found you. They looked around. They decided you might be able to help. And they gave you their details.
That’s not a casual browser. That’s someone who’s interested.
And what do most websites show them next?
“Thanks for your enquiry. We’ll be in touch shortly.”
White page. No links. Nothing to do. Dead end.
What a waste.
Why the Thank You page matters
The moment someone fills in a form is the moment they’re most engaged with your business. They’ve just taken action. They’re leaning in. They want to know more.
And you’ve sent them to a blank page.
Your Thank You page is an opportunity. A big one. And almost nobody uses it.
What to put on it
You don’t need to overcomplicate this. Pick one or two of these:
1. Tell them what happens next.
“Thanks for getting in touch. I’ll come back to you within 24 hours, usually faster.”
That’s it. Set expectations. Reduce anxiety. They’ve just given a stranger their email address - reassure them it wasn’t a mistake.
2. Show them something else.
Got a blog post that’s relevant to what they just enquired about? Link to it. Got a video explaining how you work? Embed it. Got a case study from a similar client? Put it there.
They’re already in “learn more” mode. Give them something to learn.
3. Ask them to follow you somewhere.
“While you wait, come and say hello on LinkedIn.” Or “Join our free community where we share tips every week.”
You’ve already got their attention. This is the easiest follow you’ll ever get.
4. Give them something.
A PDF guide. A checklist. A short video. Something useful that makes them think “this person really knows their stuff” before you’ve even had a conversation.
A real example
Imagine you’re a landscape gardener. Someone’s just filled in your quote request form.
Instead of a blank “thanks” page, they see:
_Thanks - I’ll come back to you within 24 hours. While you wait, here’s a quick guide to the 5 things to think about before planning a garden redesign. It’ll help us have a much better conversation when we chat.[Download the guide]_Or have a look at some of our recent projects: [link to portfolio]
That person is now more informed, more engaged, and more likely to become a customer. All from a page that most people leave blank.
How to fix yours
Go and fill in your own contact form right now. See what comes up.
If it’s a white page with “thanks, we’ll be in touch” - you’ve got work to do.
Add a short message, one useful link, and a clear next step. Takes ten minutes and it’ll change how people feel about your business before you’ve even spoken to them.
Stop wasting the page where people are paying the most attention.
