The Go-Giver is a book that was written by Bob Burg and John David Mann.
It’s been quoted as saying, “The goal of this story isn’t to teach you the mechanics of success but rather how to achieve it with less stress and more joy.”
The book is about what they call the “The Five Laws of Stratospheric Success”
Here are the five laws:
1) The Law of Value 2) The Law of Compensation 3) The Law of Influence 4) The Law of Authenticity 5) The Law of Receptivity
It’s also one of my favourite books that I think every marketer should read because it highlights key aspects of connecting with customers on a deeper level.
I’ve always been a big fan of business books that tell a story to get the message across which is exactly what The Go-Giver is.
In the book, Burg and Mann introduce us to four business characters. These characters will serve as guides throughout the book.
The book takes us on the ‘journey’ of Joe, an ambitious salesman who finds himself in dire straits when he is let down on a deal he was counting on.
Through some divine intervention he meets Bob, who teaches him how to be successful by giving away what you are best at rather than focusing on what you want from other people.
If you are looking for something fun and easy to read while giving you some really important lessons then this is a great book for that.
If I had to describe the book in one line I would say – The Go-Giver is a book that teaches you how to be a better person.
I know that may sound a bit strong but it’s true.
It’s about giving and receiving in the same way, which means it doesn’t matter if you’re on the giving or receiving end of an interaction.
The book tells us that we should always give more than we expect to receive, because then people will want to work with us again.
It’s a book I’ve ready 3 or 4 times – which I think that’s the most of any book at this point – it’s a book that I recommend a lot and it’s a book I am confident you’ll take a lot from.
Go check it out, you’ll not regret it.
